Job Overview

The Member Consultant role is responsible to provide relevant, timely and accurate financial advice to members and prospective members to meet their financial goals, and to become the financial institution of choice. The focus of this position will be to provide lending advice, however some investment knowledge/work will be an ongoing requirement. Utilizing a branch team approach, the member consultant identifies member sales opportunities and ensures a cooperative team participation to fulfill these opportunities. Assists with achieving the goals and objectives relating to business development as set forth by the Branch Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Sales:

1) Responsible for achieving sales targets and goals as set out by the Branch Manager.

2) Uncover and identify sales opportunities with members and prospective members.

3) Actively solicit, follow up and cross sell products and services to members to increase share of wallet and ensure we are the primary financial institution of choice. Provide the right financial advice based on thorough understanding of their financial goals and develop a financial plan that meets their needs and provides increased business to FirstOntario.

4) Utilize the sales cycle to optimize value for members and fully capture all sales opportunities including follow up. Provide relevant and qualified referrals based on business plan and assigned goals (i.e. Wealth Management, Commercial, Investments).

5) Complete credit sales through to closure adhering to terms / conditions of the approval and Due diligence policies.

6) Complete sales and sales opportunity tracking activity as required.

7) Participate and present at branch sales meetings.

Service:

1) Apply FirstOntario Credit Union’s sales and service standards with all of our current and prospective members.

2) Put a member’s, or prospective member’s, needs for service and attention before any administrative or operational work of your own.

3) Work with member to resolve inquiries and/or concerns.

4) Apply sound service and business judgment in all activities and interactions.

5) Keep member contact diary system up to date with relevant follow up action.

6) Maintain ongoing activity plan to assist prioritizing sales, service and operational work.

7) Make decisions within prescribed lending limits.

8) Track activity and results for retention, consolidation, acquisition, as required.

9) Actively participate in sales meetings, as required.

10) Assist / relieve on other positions or with duties in the branch, as required.

Operations:

1) Adhere to policies and procedures at all times.

2) Complete work accurately, promptly and fully from beginning to end.

3) Complete open and close activities, as required or assigned.

4) Provide overrides and other such operational work within guidelines outlined in your “letter of authority”.

5) Perform audits and proofing, as required.

6) Perform actionable requirements associated with control and exception reports (delinquencies, maturing products etc.).

7) Complete sundry duties and other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications and Technical Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • 4 years office, credit union/ bank cash experience
  • Must complete other job-related courses and certificates as required
  • On-line exposure
  • Ability to type 30 WPM
  • Must complete other job-related courses and certificates as required
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • A knowledge of the Financial Services Industry as well as active correspondence of competitors benchmarks and standards
