The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) officially announced the Canadian Team at a press conference on Monday, June 17, in Toronto at Variety Village. The Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association is proud to announce that 29 wheelchair athletes and seven wheelchair staff members will be a part of the largest Canadian contingent to attend the Xth Paralympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, August 15-25. Team members are:

ATHLETICS: Jeff Adams (ON), André Beaudoin (QC), Dean Bergeron (QC), Jacques Bouchard (QC), Colette Bourgonje (SK), Nick Cunningham (MB), Steve Ellefson (AB), Clayton Gerein (SK), Linda Hamilton (ON), Carl Marquis (QC), Jacques Martin (QC), Brent McMahon (ON), Colin Mathieson (MB), Hal Merrill (NB), Chantal Petitclerc (QC), Marc Quessy (QC), Rick Reelie (SK), Diane Roy (QC) and André Viger (QC).

RUGBY: Daniel Bélanger (QC), Garett Hickling (BC), Kirby Kranabetter (ON), Raymond Lizotte (QC), Brian McPhate (BC), Al Semeniuk (SK), Daryl Stubel (SK) and David Tweed (MB).

WHEELCHAIR ATHLETICS COMES ALIVE ON TSN, RDS AND CBC

TSN televised a half-hour highlights package of the Metro Toronto Wheelchair Challenge, which took place July 12-14 in Etobicoke, Ontario. The premier program was aired on Saturday, August 3, at 12:30 pm, with additional airings on Monday, August 5. CWSA is also pleased to announce that on August 9 at 9:30 pm, RDS aired the Athletics Paralympic Trials, which took place in Montréal on June 1 and 2.

In addition, CBC will transmit the 800m and 1500m non-medal events live on August 1, 1996, from the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In these events, Chantal Petitclerc will be competing for the right to access the podium in the 800m.
