CAILC Starts a National Project on People with Disabilities and Employability
CAILC has received funding from Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) to carry out an 18-month national employment project.
The overall goal of the project is to help Canadians with disabilities find, get and keep jobs. To that end, the thrust of this project is to develop tools that will help ILRCs re-position themselves to deliver concrete employment services to persons with disabilities that currently are not offered by other agencies and organizations.
The project will form a national advisory group comprising a cross-section of individuals from Independent Living, government and the business sector. Training materials will be developed for a National Employment Training Institute, which will provide concrete information to the ILRCs in the area of employment.
Some centres have already made significant gains in this area, and we hope to use their expertise in the development and implementation of this project.
Currently, CAILC is hiring a National Employment Coordinator, who will oversee the project at the national level. Like all other national projects, success will come only through cooperation and information sharing.
