Cruise Companies

In "Sunquest Winter Magic 1996-97," a catalogue of cruise and tour packages, it seems that some travel companies listed have their own policy ideas when it comes to providing service to people with disabilities. Have they never heard of basic human rights?

Americanada Tours Inc.:
"...Any person suffering from a handicap requiring any special assistance, help, care or equipment must inform Americanada Tours Inc. thereof in writing at time of making the reservation. The said person must also furnish Americanada Tours Inc. with a doctor’s certificate specifying that the passenger is able to participate in the trip and benefit from it without requiring the help of another member of the group or our representative. Americanada Tours Inc. reserves the right to refuse any passenger who in our opinion would not be able to fully benefit from the trip or who would be a danger to himself (herself) or his or her fellow passengers..."

Royal Vacations:
"...Travellers with disabilities needing special care or treatment must inform the travel agent in writing and submit a statement signed by a doctor confirming that they can take part in the trip and manage without help from another member of the group. The travel agent has the right to refuse travellers who are not able to complete the trip or for whom the trip may constitute a danger, either for themselves or others in the group..."

Sunquest Vacations Limited:
"...Services required for handling wheelchair confined passengers are not included in the package price..."
