Nova Scotia has the highest percentage per capita -- 21 per cent -- of people with disabilities in Canada. This means one of every five Nova Scotians has some form of disability. Access to information and resources is paramount for people with disabilities to make independent living a reality.
Access to Independence is Atlantic Canada’s only exhibition featuring products, services and programs for people with disabilities. Its purpose is to generate interest and public awareness about the needs and potential of people with disabilities. This summer, the show will take place on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the World Trade and Convention Centre.
The event will include over 85 exhibits, as well as workshops, guest speakers and live entertainment. This year’s show will spotlight entrepreneurs and local craftspersons -- people with disabilities who have started their own businesses. An Internet training and technology demonstration area will allow you to test the latest specialized computer equipment while you explore the World Wide Web.
