The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has recently enhanced its permanent disability sport exhibit with a new, interactive wheelchair racing component.
“Endless Possibilities: A Tribute to Paralympic & Disability Sport,” which opened in 2001, highlights the history of disability sports and the Paralympic movement, along with artifacts featuring sports such as wheelchair basketball and sledge hockey.
This is North America’s first and only permanent museum exhibition dedicated to the achievements of athletes with disabilities. The exhibit was designed to increase awareness of the contributions that Paralympic and other athletes with disabilities have made to society, and of the endless opportunities for athletes with a disability.
The new component to the exhibit, the “200-Metre Wheelchair Challenge,” includes a wheelchair racing simulator, providing an interactive – and fun – opportunity for discovery. Visitors to the exhibit can challenge friends to a race, or compare themselves against the best wheelchair athletes in the world.
The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum bills itself as “an interactive, hands-on celebration of Alberta’s sporting history.” For more information about the exhibit or the museum, visit www.albertasportshalloffame.com or call (403) 341-8614.
