The Province of New Brunswick has taken a significant step to ensure that all of its public information is accessible to its citizens.
During the province’s Disability Awareness Week in June which carried a theme of Full Citizenship for All the government announced that it will provide sign language interpretation and an assistive listening system (FM) for advertised public meetings. It will also provide alternate format delivery of government news releases, brochures and similar publications. All of these services will be made available on request.
People wishing to request any of these services should call Communications New Brunswick at (506) 453-2240 (TTY: (506) 457-6866). Collect calls will be accepted. For alternate format requests, callers should specify the name of the document or its department of origin, and the format required. To request sign language interpretation for an advertised public government meeting, people can also call their regular service provider for their region (e.g. Saint John Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Inc. or the Moncton Hearing Impaired Council).
