Richmond Disability Resource Centre

By Brian Smith

The Executive Director of the Richmond Disability Resource Centre was recently profiled in the Richmond Review.

I hear she has a great approach to the work they are doing over there. Here's a link to the article, and here's a short quote from Ella Huang speaking to the attitudes of the general public in China towards people with disabilities,

“There’s a lot of stigma with disabilities. The majority of people are still in denial, because the approach of institutionalization is still existing. The reality is you don’t see a lot of people with disabilities on the street. The problem is still there, you just don’t see it. But in Canada, we are very open about that, we include members with all different abilities in the community. We see them on a day-to-day basis... (But) I think there’s a movement going on globally (to improve the lives of people with disabilities).”
